The math, with a worked example
Cost per visit = monthly fee ÷ max(actual visits, 1). A $40 gym membership with 0 visits means each visit costs $40 that month. With 4 visits, it drops to $10 per visit.
Why this matters
A gym membership is priced monthly but consumed per visit. At $40 a month, 4 visits make each one $10; zero visits make next month's first visit cost $40. The per-visit number, not the monthly fee, decides whether the membership beats day passes.
Methodology and transparency
Cost per visit = monthly fee ÷ visits, with visits floored at 1 so an unused month prices its next visit at the full fee. The assumption most likely to be wrong is your own attendance number: most people enter intended visits rather than their actual last-3-months average, and the gap between those two is the entire answer. Count real visits from your calendar before deciding. Everything runs in your browser; no data is sent or stored.
