True Cost Time Calculator
Price to Hours Calculator โ Gross Wage Time Cost
What this calculator does
This is the raw version of the Hours of Life calculator. It shows how many hours you must work at your gross wage to afford an item.
The math, with a worked example
Hours = item cost รท gross hourly wage. A $250 item at $22/hour gross takes about 11.4 hours of work.
Why this matters
At $22 an hour gross, a $250 item is 11.4 working hours โ a day and a half at your desk, converted before taxes even take their cut. Hours are the currency you actually spend; dollars are just the receipt.
Methodology and transparency
Hours = price รท gross hourly wage. Gross deliberately: it understates the true hour-cost (after-tax hours run higher โ the sibling price-to-hours calculator does that version), making this the optimistic floor. If the floor number already hurts, the purchase has answered itself. Everything runs in your browser; no data is sent or stored.

Common questions
How is this different from Hours of Life?
Hours of Life subtracts taxes. This calculator uses gross wage for a raw, pre-tax view.
Should I use gross or net?
Net is more realistic for spending decisions. Gross is useful for comparing pay rates or contract work.
