What this calculator does
Boxed mixes are convenient but often cost more per serving than making food from scratch.
The math
Boxed per serving = box cost ÷ servings. Scratch per serving = flour cost ÷ uses + egg cost ÷ eggs per carton.
Worked example
A $3 box with 10 servings costs $0.30 per serving. $5 flour over 10 uses plus $4 eggs over 12 costs about $0.83 per serving. Adjust ingredients to match your recipe.
